Key LSU defensive player exits in first half with injury, heading to locker room

Maason Smith suffered what appeared to be a lower leg injury.

The injury bug bit the Tigers early in its season-opener on Sunday against Florida State.

On the first drive of the ballgame for the Seminoles, LSU suffered a couple of injuries to two of their best players. Defensive linemen [autotag]Maason Smith[/autotag] and [autotag]BJ Ojulari[/autotag] both went down in back-to-back plays.

Ojulari is fine after some time in the injury tent, but the update on Smith is not as promising. Smith suffered what seemed to be a left leg injury. He was helped off the field by trainers, and upon leaving the injury tent he was sent directly to the locker room for X-rays.

Hopefully, his injury is not as bad as it seems. The Tigers could ill afford to lose a guy like Smith just one drive into the 2022 campaign. Ojulari re-entered the game for the second drive, so that is great news for [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the team. As soon as more information is released on Smith’s status, you can find it right here on LSU Wire.
