With the 2020 NFL offseason officially underway, the Miami Dolphins are set to transition from rebuilding underdogs to upstart youngsters. With a few years of layered improvements to the roster, Miami aspires to be a playoff contender. That starts now. And with the offseason’s free agency window opening on March 18th, there are a few key dates for the Dolphins to be wary of between now and then.
Here are some of the more important figures for the Dolphins to be aware of as the team gets ready to invest heavily in both free agency and the NFL Draft:
2020 #NFL Numbers
Franchise Tags: 2/25 – 3/10
All Tenders Due: 3/18
Top 51 Cap Begins: 3/18Minimum Salary: $510k
Vet Min. Cap Hit: $660k(+$90k)
P-Squad: $142,800 ($8.4k/wk)
Proj. #1 Pick Bonus: $25M
SB Winner: $130k
SB Loser: $65K
Pro Bowl Winner: $74k
Pro Bowl Loser: $37k— Spotrac (@spotrac) February 5, 2020
Some of these figures carry no merit for the Dolphins — such as Super Bowl bonuses and Pro Bowl figures. But the franchise tag window is absolutely of importance to the team. With the Dolphins looking to parse through the free agent ranks, the deadline for franchise tags is going to be a big window for the Dolphins as they look to sustain their targets on the open market.
The Dolphins themselves? There’s little reason to think the team will be using the franchise tag themselves — the team has secured every long-term player as necessary and isn’t at risk of losing any prized free agents this offseason. But never the less, the window will be a big one for Miami as they look to finalize their pro scouting and set their sights on a few big additions to help turn the tide of this roster.
