While it’s usually Steph Curry, Klay Thompson or Jordan Poole that will come to the rescue on offense, Game 2’s comeback against the Dallas Mavericks was sparked by an unlikely hero.
For the second time in Golden State’s run through the playoffs, Kevon Looney came through clutch for the Warriors. After falling down by as many as 19 points in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, Looney put together one of the best performances of his six-year career.
Looney tallied a career-high 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor with 12 boards and two assists in 32 minutes. While the Warriors were building a comeback in the third quarter on Friday night, Looney was the catalyst. As the Warriors cut into the Mavericks’ advantage, Looney tallied 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.
As Looney helped the Warriors complete a fiery comeback to take a 2-0 lead in the series, Golden State’s home crowd at Chase Center rewarded the big man. While at the free-throw line, Looney was showered with MVP chants from the roaring crowd.

With a pair of solid performances to start the series, Looney currently has a legitimate chance to win the Western Conference finals MVP trophy. Through two games, Looney is averaging 15.5 points on 78.9% shooting from the floor with 8.5 boards and three assists per game.
Game 2’s performance was the first time Looney recorded over 20 points in his career. Looney is coming off a career-high 22 rebound effort in Game 6 of the second round of the playoffs against the Memphis Grizzlies.
