The Minnesota Vikings currently sit 12th in the National Football League in scoring at 24.1 points per game. One of the reasons that they are as good as they are on offense is how well they perform on opening drives.
Head coach and play caller Kevin O’Connell has set the Vikings up well with their scripted drives so far this season. They currently lead the NFL in points on their first drive of the game with 35 on the season.

Despite their success early in the game, they haven’t been able to stay consistent, especially in the third quarter. They have only scored in the third quarter twice so far this season with both touchdowns coming last week against the Arizona Cardinals.
The Vikings’ offense has come a long way this season, but figuring out how to maximize those fast starts will be the key to helping this team take things to a new level.
