Kevin O’Connell is in rare company winning one-score games

The Vikings head coach has done a good job of winning the close games.

Since Kevin O’Connell took over as head coach, the Vikings have played plenty of one-score games. Just this past weekend, Minnesota went back down to the wire as it usually does. The Vikings defeated the Cardinals by just one point.

Minnesota has already been in eight one-score games this season. Kevin O’Connell has the 3rd-best winning percentage (.727) for one-score games in NFL history (minimum 25 games), per Elias Sports.

Guy Chamberlin: .759 (22-7-7) (coached from 1920-27)
John Madden: .732 (40-14-7)
Kevin O’Connell: .727 (24-9)

The one thing Minnesota fans want to see more of is the Vikings keeping their foot on the pedal. Either the Vikings get out to an early lead before allowing the opposition to get back into the game, or the Vikings stall early and have to make an epic last-minute comeback to win the game.

Hopefully, things are a little easier on Sunday when the struggling Atlanta Falcons come to town. It will be the first time the Vikings have faced Kirk Cousins since leaving Minnesota.
