Kevin Garnett calls out Kyrie Irving in scathing Instagram story for stomping on the Celtics logo

“You can’t do that.”

Kyrie Irving got the attention of everyone in the sports community after his stomp heard round the world on Sunday. After Irving and the Brooklyn Nets took the Boston Celtics to task 141-126 — and before Irving was nearly hit in the head with a water bottle — in Game 4 of the NBA Playoffs, Irving was seen stepping deliberately on the Celtics logo, wiping his shoe and starting a firestorm across the league.

The incident has incited rage from Celtics fans and mockery from the rest of the NBA world at large to what has been deemed an overreaction.

On Monday, Kevin Garnett threw his proverbial hat in the ring with a take of his own on Irving’s stomp that sent shockwaves across the NBA. In an Instagram story post, Garnett was less than pleased with Irving’s actions, stating “you can’t do that.”

Here’s the relevant parts of Garnett’s Instagram story:

So nobody gonna say anything about Kyrie stomping ‘LUCKY’?

We just gonna act like we didn’t see that [expletive]’s going on….
You can’t do that. That’s not coo on no level..  All of us need to be better, for real for real. I’m just sayin…

It’s no surprise that Garnett — who played with Boston for six seasons and won his only championship with the Celtics in 2008 — would side with his former team here. It is funny how Garnett wondered why no one was talking about Irving’s stomp when… it has clearly dominated the sports news cycle since Sunday night.

Irving’s stomp no doubt lit a fire under Celtics fans and former players, so we’ll see if Boston has a response for the Nets in their next game on Tuesday.
