Opposing coaches and players have followed the Nets in letting everyone know Kevin Durant is truly back — even though the forward won’t put it that way. It appears the fans have heard the message loud in clear.
The NBA announced the first fan vote returns for this year’s NBA All-Star Game, and Durant led the league with 2,302,705 votes. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James led the Western Conference with 2,288,676 votes and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo finished second in the Eastern Conference with 1,752,185.
Kyrie Irving (1,093,611) is currently second among Eastern Conference guards, trailing Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal (1,273,817). James Harden is third among guards, right behind Irving, with 1,014,763 votes.
The fan vote accounts for 50% of the vote. Players and media also vote, accounting for 25% of the vote apiece.
The fan vote ends on Feb. 16. The All-Star Game starters will be announced on Feb. 18 and the reserves on Feb. 23.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, this year’s NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta will be held on March 7.
