In the Brooklyn Nets’ Christmas Day win over the Boston Celtics, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving became only the third duo in franchise history to post 20-plus-point games in back-to-back contests to open up an NBA season. Brook Lopez and Devin Harris accomplished this for the New Jersey Nets back in 2010-11, joining Nate Archibald and John Williamson (1976-77).
But, neither Lopez and Harris nor Archibald and Williamson carried their momentum into the third game of their respective seasons, making Durant and Irving the first pair to do so when they each scored 20-plus in Brooklyn’s 106-104 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday.
Durant led the Nets in scoring for the first time, finishing with 29 points on Sunday.
Believe it or not, Irving’s 25 points against Charlotte are the low for him in this young NBA season.
Durant and Irving get the chance to extend their streak on Monday when their host the Memphis Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m.
