Three-time gold medalist, two-time NBA Champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, eleven-time All-Star and one-time league MVP Kevin Durant is ready for his 15th season. Tracing back to the offseason of last year, many doubted if the 33-year-old would come back the same. Fast forward to now, Durant’s name has been mentioned when talking about the best player in the game today. During Media Day, KD touched on this and how much pain it had caused him:
“Me being the best player like you said, just last year people were questioning if I could actually play again and now this year people are calling me the best. Like that was a pain, but it really doesn’t matter. Everybody’s fickle when it comes to that stuff. I know what I bring to the table. My teammates know what I bring and the true fans that love the game, that genuinely love the game, understand what I have carved out in the league so that’s cool enough for me.”
When asked on where he envisions his game to be further down the line this season, KD pointed at availability being more important:
“I don’t want to predict, I don’t know. I mean I will keep getting better. You guys have been seeing me for 15 years. You probably could project where I will be at the end of the season so I don’t think we have to do that with my game anymore. It is what it is. I just want to be available for my team every day.”
With a stacked lineup at head coach Steve Nash’s disposal, the Nets are set to make noise. However, KD does not want to take this lightly at all:
“What we have on paper is cool, but we still got to get out between the lines and play.”
