Kevin Durant, much like everyone else who follows the NBA closely, had a high opinion of the Los Angeles Clippers heading into and throughout the 2019-20 season.
How could anyone not with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George paired together, accompanied by a strong supporting cast and head coach Doc Rivers?
Yet the Denver Nuggets pulled off a huge comeback in the Western Conference Semifinals to advance past the Clippers and onto the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.
Durant got into why he was so surprised by the Clippers’ rough end to their 2020 NBA Playoffs run during his recent phone interview on The Joe Budden Podcast:
To see them lose like that, it was definitely shocking. They had the most talent. they [were] the deepest team in the NBA top-to-bottom.
Budden threw out his own theory that Leonard doesn’t like George, to which Durant responded by saying, “I don’t think so” three times.
Then the Brooklyn Nets superstar explained why he felt the Nuggets were able to pull off the big upset:
The Clippers weren’t on the same page on defense all series. That’s why they lost.
