Kevin Durant can rejoin Nets Friday; Kyrie Irving is day-to-day

Kevin Durant once again has to quarantine due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

The Brooklyn Nets could have Kyrie Irving back again soon, but Kevin Durant is another story. Steven Nash said on his Zoom call with reporters before Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers that Irving is day-to-day with his finger injury.

Durant, however, can’t return to the Nets until Friday — just in time to travel with his teammates to California to face his old team, the Golden State Warriors. Durant is being held out due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols. This is the second time the forward has had to quarantine this season. Durant will also miss Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons and Wednesday’s game against the Indiana Pacers.

According to Malika Andrews of ESPN, Durant was exposed “to an associate who tested positive for COVID-19,” adding:

Yesterday, Durant drove with a team employee three separate times to the team practice facility for testing, home from testing and to the arena for the game, sources tell ESPN. Durant and the employee did not appear to be wearing masks.
