The Tennessee Titans’ most notable pending free agent going into the 2022 offseason is no doubt outside linebacker Harold Landry, who had his best season as a pro in 2021.
Landry notched a career-high 12 sacks in the final year of his rookie deal — and 1.5 more in the playoffs — and was a key piece of a Titans pass-rush that went from a putrid 19 sacks in 2020 to 43 this year.
While there’s no question the Titans would love to bring Landry back (an article about Landry from December stated the two sides have already discussed a new contract), the team isn’t in the best shape financially.
According to Over the Cap, Tennessee has about $7.4 million in top 51 cap space, so general manager Jon Robinson will have to figure out a way to open up more room if he wants to keep Landry and make more moves.
One way he can do that is through contract restructures, something safety Kevin Byard said he wants to do if it helps the Titans keep Landry.

If Tennessee does go that route, it would be the second time Byard’s deal has been restructured. The 2020 restructure opened up $6.1 million in cap space.
As far as what Landry could possibly make on the open market, Spotrac estimates he’ll see a deal around four years and $68.4 million, which works out to $17.1 million annually. That sounds about right.
