Kevin Byard is ‘definitely all for’ Titans signing Jadeveon Clowney

Byard is certainly not opposed to signing Clowney.

Not that this should come as a surprise, but Tennessee Titans safety Kevin Byard is definitely on board with the team signing Jadeveon Clowney.

Byard was a guest on “Good Morning Football” and was asked about the Titans’ pursuit of Clowney and the possibility that the team might sign him.

The Titans’ safety says he’s “definitely all for it” and explained exactly what Clowney would bring to the Titans.

“I’m not Jon Robinson or Mike Vrabel, but I would say as a safety, the most beautiful thing as a safety that you can have is some bad pass-rushers in front of you that’s getting after the quarterback,” Byard said. “A lot of times you get tipped balls, batted balls, just a lot of opportunities to make plays on the ball. So, if we can add a guy like him, an elite pass-rusher, somebody who can get after the quarterback, and also be great in run defense, I’m definitely all for it.”

However, just like the rest of us, Byard says there’s no telling if Clowney will actually come to Nashville.

“Now, is it going to happen? Who knows. I know that our team has been in contact with him. I’m sure we’ve been in contract with a lot of other guys, so we’ll see what happens, but I will say that I enjoy and like the guys we have on our roster now. Harold Landry is a young guy who I feel like is going to be one of the best pass-rushers in this league in the future. And also we signed Vic Beasley as well, so Vic Beasley is a great guy so… If we can get Clowney, it would be more power we have on our defense.”

More power indeed. As Byard noted, not only would the Titans be getting a good pass-rusher, Clowney is also good against the run and can drop into coverage if need be.

And when you combine Clowney with guys like Landry and Beasley, and Jeffery Simmons on the defensive line, the Titans will have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to pass-rushers.

Hopefully the Clowney watch ends soon — and more importantly, it ends with him coming to Nashville.
