The Arizona Cardinals, despite only winning five games all last season, finished the year playing better. They have made some important additions in the offseason and some see them as a sleeper in the NFC. Cornerback Patrick Peterson believes they have the talent to compete for a championship.
Running back Kenyan Drake said the team has sent a message to the league with their improvements.
Between their wins in December, the addition of receiver DeAndre Hopkins, their defensive free agents and Isaiah Simmons in the draft, “we definitely feel that now, along with the rest of the NFL, we’ve put them on notice,” he said in an interview with Jim Rome.
“We’re trying to take the next step,” he said, noting also the expected progress of second-year quarterback Kyler Murray. “We’re excited to get back into the swing of things, everybody come together and get this show on the road.”
Drake is coming off a season in which he rushed for 643 yards and eight touchdowns in the final eight games for the Cardinals after he was acquired via trade. He signed a one-year transition tag tender for the 2020 season that will pay him almost $8.5 million.
