The Kentucky Wildcats women;s softball team won their home opener over Bellarmine 3-1 behind a gem of a game from Sydney Langdon. The win put Kentucky at 14-4 on the season, and sitting at 21st in the rankings.
Bellarmine jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. They had bases loaded and no outs and scored on a sacrifice fly to right. After that, however, Langdon settled down and really dominated the game for the Wildcats. She only gave up the one unearned run on three hits and three walks, striking out 15 for the game. Langdon only needed 114 pitches to finish the seven inning complete game for the Wildcats.
On the offensive side of the game, Grace Lorsung went two for three with a double, a triple, a RBI and a run scored. Kentucky had seven hits on the day, six of those going for extra bases. Taylor Ebbs and Lauryn Borzilleri drove in the other two runs for the Wildcats. Kentucky had five different players with hits on the day.
The Wildcats will start a three game home series with the third ranked LSU Tigers on Friday in Lexington. The Tigers are the last remaining undefeated team in the country. The game on Friday will start at 6:30 p.m. EST with the weekend games set for Noon EST on Saturday and Sunday.
