While new Kentucky women’s basketball coach Kenny Brooks has been hard at work building the 2024 team, he is certainly to be looking ahead as well. On Thursday, he looked a few years ahead by offering a scholarship to class of 2028 recruit Sydney “Bean” Douglas.
Already standing 6’6″ with the potential to still grow, she has plenty of length, but she is very talented out side of just her size. She shares a nickname with Kobe Bryant, and has received favorable comparisons to the former Lakers star.

Comparisons to all-time greats are hyperbolic to a degree, but Douglas can certainly be a star. She comes from an athletic background, with a father who played in the NFL, and a grandfather who was a good college basketball player.
It will be a few years before Douglas has to make any kind of decision on where to play college basketball. However, Kenny Brooks sees the potential in her, and is recruiting her now. If she meets that potential, fans will be glad he did.
After an awesome conversation with Coach Brooks, I am blessed to receive an offer from @KentuckyWBB!! Thank you to Coach Brooks and staff for believing in me! #sydneybean #GoBigBlue #classof2028 @L_Hicks04 pic.twitter.com/sItDCYGiyY
