Kentucky women’s basketball opened SEC play with a win over Mississippi State

Thursday night saw Kenny Brooks and the 16th ranked Kentucky women’s basketball open up SEC play against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. It would be a night to remember. The Wildcats would set a new record for made three-pointers and get a blowout victory.

Dazia Lawrence would get Kentucky out to a hot start by making some early shots from deep, and the Cats would lead 49 – 35 at halftime. The second half saw more three-pointers, particular from Lawrence and Georgia Amoore, and Kentucky pulled away for a 91 – 69 win.

Amoore and Lawrence led the way for the Wildcats with 27 and 28 points respectively. They made seven threes apiece, and the team made 18, which is a new school record. Teonni Key added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The win moves Kentucky to 12 – 1 on the year, and 1 – 0 in SEC play. They take on Vanderbilt next. That game will be on Sunday, January 5th.
