This season has not gone as planned for the Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team. They finished the season with a 12 – 19 record and were just 4 – 12 in the SEC. The SEC Tournament has begun now, though, and the Cats get a chance at a restart.
The Wildcats faced The Georgia Bulldogs in round one of the SEC Tournament on Wednesday night. They got the win by a score of 64 – 50.
The Cats were led by Eniya Russell, who had 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor. Brooklyn Miles and Ajae Petty each added 11 points. Petty had 14 big rebounds.
Kentucky got out to a big lead early on, leading 21 – 14 after one quarter, and 36 – 22 at halftime. Georgia played much better in the second half, but couldn’t make enough of a comeback to get back into the game.
Round two will pose a much more difficult challenge for the 12th seeded Wildcats. They’ll play the number five seeded Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday. That game will be on the SEC Network on Thursday afternoon. A year that hasn’t gone very well would be viewed much differently with a big win in the second round.
