Kentucky Wildcats Baseball commit Evan Hampton snags football offer

Kentucky baseball recruit Evan Hampton offered by Kentucky football.

Evan Hampton a 6-foot, 200-pound shortstop and outfielder from Owensboro  (KY) has been offered a football scholarship by the Wildcats staff. The only catch is that he is already committed to Kentucky to play baseball in late March.

“Growing up my family on both sides have been huge UK fans and I have an uncle who played baseball there as well,” Hampton told The Owensboro Times shortly after announcing his decision.

Hampton ran for 1,552 rushing yards, 25 touchdowns and averaged 10.7 yards per carry while also catching 44 passes for 527 yards and two scores last season as a sophomore for Owensboro Senior High School.

The dual sport athlete was on the all-state baseball team too, batting .470 with 39 hits and 20 RBI in his sophomore campaign on the diamond.

“Just watching him play, you can immediately see the possibilities of his talent. The way that he moves, the way that he carries himself, that’s one, and then when you watch him swing the bat, he’s got a very natural swing. When you see him field the ball and make a play, it comes fairly natural and fluid for the most part.” OHS coach Jake Fiorella said.

Hampton also holds offers from Illinois, TCU, Louisville, West Virginia, Memphis, Arkansas and Ohio in his young career with more to come.
