Kentucky softball season ends with a loss to the Michigan Wolverines

Kentucky softball took a 4 – 2 season-ending loss to the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday.

The Kentucky softball team opened the NCAA Tournament of Friday by defeating the Michigan Wolverines. A loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday set up a rematch with Michigan on Saturday evening with the loser going home. Unfortunately, the Cats suffered a 4 – 2 loss, ending their season.

The Wolverines jumped out to a two-run lead in the second inning, but Grace Lorsung continued to play well and drove in a run to cut the lead in half. In the bottom of the third, Michigan added two more on a homerun. Kentucky would add a run in the fourth, but that would be it.

Lorsung went 1-for-1 with an RBI while Vanessa Nesby had two hits. However, the Wildcats left seven on base and couldn’t get enough hits when it mattered the most.

Kentucky finished the season with an overall record of 31 – 24 and did win an NCAA Tournament game before being eliminated. It was a disappointing season overall, but one with plenty of bright spots as well. Wildcats fans will look ahead and hope for the best in 2025.
