Kentucky shut out in Week 2 US LBM Coaches Poll after embarrassing home loss

A look at the US LBM Coaches Poll after Week 2.

A week ago, Kentucky received the fourth-most votes for Top 25 consideration in the US LBM Coaches Poll after shutting out Southern Miss 31-0 to open the season.

After Saturday’s showing against South Carolina? Forget about it.

The Wildcats, who fell 31-6 to the Gamecocks in an ugly home loss to open SEC play, received no votes for Top 25 consideration in the Week 2 Coaches Poll, released Sunday.

Georgia remained No. 1 after taking care of business at home against Tennessee Tech, 48-3. The Bulldogs visit Lexington next week for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Kroger Field. The game can be seen on ABC.

The top six teams in the Coaches Poll stayed the same with Ohio State at No. 2, Texas at No. 3, Alabama at No. 4, Ole Miss at No. 5, and Oregon at No. 6.

For the second straight week, the SEC had the most teams ranked with eight total — including six in the top nine spots. Missouri rose three spots to No. 7 while Tennessee jumped three spots to No. 9.

Notre Dame suffered the biggest drop of any team ranked in the Coaches Poll after its stunning 16-14 home loss to Northern Illinois. The Fighting Irish plummeted 12 spots to land at No. 19. Notre Dame had been a 28-point favorite over the Huskies, who earned their first win in program history against a Top 10 opponent.
