The Kentucky Wildcats football team had the fourth member of the 2023 team drafted on Saturday. Quarterback Devin Leary was picked with the 218th overall pick by the Baltimore Ravens.
Leary didn’t have his best season last year. He completed 56% of his passes for just over 2,700 yards. He threw for 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also ran for a touchdown.
Kentucky was only Leary’s home for one season after spending the previous four years with North Carolina State. His best season was in 2021, when he threw for over 3,400 yards and 35 touchdowns.
Leary has a terrific arm, and can make throws when out of the pocket. However, his overall accuracy is questionable at times, as well as his ability to progress through reads during a play.
Getting to sit behind an MVP player like Lamar Jackson will surely be an advantage for Leary. With some development, he could become a solid backup quarterback at the NFL level, which isn’t bad for a sixth round draft pick.
