The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team went on a terrific run to close out the season. They won seven of their final eight games, including Saturday’s win over the Tennessee Volunteers, to become a two seed in the SEC Tournament.
The seeding means Kentucky will get a double-bye, and won’t play until the quarterfinals. This means extra rest, and fewer games played, which does have its advantages.
The Wildcats, and their fans, will be watching with interest to see who their first opponents will be. They’ll play the winner between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Texas A&M Aggies, and fans likely have a preference.
Kentucky met the two teams once apiece this season. They defeated Ole Miss 75 – 63 on February 13th in a low-scoring battle. Antonio Reeves led the team with 15 points and Ugonna Onyenso had 10 blocks.
On the other hand, Texas A&M hosted Kentucky on January 13th and beat the Cats 97 – 92. The Aggies dominated the offensive boards, and Kentucky’s defense couldn’t get enough stops.
On Friday, the Wildcats will play one of the two teams. Ole Miss went 20 – 11, but just 7 – 11 in SEC play. Texas A&M went 18 – 13 and 9 – 9 in the conference. Kentucky’s players will likely say they don’t have a preference, but a lot of fans might prefer playing the team they already beat this year.
