The carousel of players continues to circle with the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. On Monday, D.J. Wagner added his name to the now long list of players to leave the program after John Calipari was replaced by Mark Pope.
Most of last year’s roster has either entered the NBA Draft or has entered the transfer portal. D.J. Wagner is the latest to take the portal option.
Wagner was one of the top recruits in last year’s class, ranked number six overall by 247sports. He was one of a trio of top guards to commit to Kentucky, and many thought he could become the best of the three.
For the season, Wagner averaged 9.9 points and 3.3 assists per game. He also showed solid skills as a perimeter defender.
It’s expected that Calipari will try to bring D.J. Wagner to Arkansas, but he’ll have plenty of other interested schools. For Kentucky fans, it’s just another defection in an off-season full of whole-sale change.
