The CBS Sports Classic was once again unkind to Kentucky basketball in 2024. The Wildcats traveled to New York to play Ohio State and headed home with an 85 – 65 defeat. The loss knocked them down six spots in the AP Top 25 poll.
Kentucky is tenth this week, down from fourth in last week’s poll, which is the same as the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. That’s a six-spot drop after their loss on Saturday. It’s still good for fifth among teams from the SEC.

The top two teams in the country are both from the SEC, with the Tennessee Volunteers at number one and Auburn Tigers second. The Alabama Crimson Tide also cracked the top five.
The Florida Gators are still undefeated and are ranked sixth, with Kentucky as the fifth top ten team. Ten SEC teams are ranked in the top 25 and two more received votes as it remains a powerhouse conference in college basketball in 2024. SEC play begins in January, and should be exciting.
