Kentucky baseball eliminated from the College World Series

Kentucky baseball falls to the Florida Gators and is eliminated from the College World Series.

Kentucky baseball had an incredible postseason run in their first ever College World Series trip, getting their first CWS win at the event as well. However, on Wednesday, the run ended in a blowout loss to Florida, in a game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday.

The Wildcats got on the board first, scoring a run in the top of the first inning, but the Gators answered in the bottom of the inning with seven runs, and that was the ballgame. Florida would win 15 – 4.

Nick Lopez and Emilien Pitre had two hits apiece, but the rest of the lineup had just a single hit. Potential first-round draft pick Ryan Waldschmidt drew three walks and scored twice.

Dominic Niman got the start for Kentucky, but didn’t make it out of the first inning. The rest of the staff didn’t fare much batter, with six different Wildcats pitchers giving up at least one run.

The season didn’t end how they would have liked, but it was a dream year overall. It was Kentucky’s first ever College World Series trip, but it won’t be their last.
