It was a special season for Kentucky baseball, as they finished atop the SEC standings and ranked second in the country. They were very good in a conference that had multiple teams ranked in the top 25 and they headed into the post-season with momentum. That momentum skidded to a halt in the SEC Tournament on Wednesday.
In their SEC Tournament opener, Kentucky faced off against the LSU Tigers, and things didn’t go well for the Cats. They struggled both offensively, and on the mound, and lost 11 – 0.

The Wildcats fell behind 2 – 0 early, but a grand slam in the sixth inning blew things open. The Tigers would hit four homeruns altogether, scoring five in the sixth and four more in the seventh. The game would be called after the eighth inning as the run rule was invoked.
Kentucky managed just one hit on the day, a Mitchell Daly single in the seventh inning. The pitching started well, but fell apart late in the game, giving up nine runs in the final two innings.
The SEC Tournament is double-elimination, so the Wildcats are still alive. To stay that way, they’ll have to beat the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday. That game will be at 10:30 AM ET and can be seen on the SEC Network.
