Kenny Moore talks about Walter Payton Man of the Year nomination

Colts CB Kenny Moore on what it means to be the team’s nomination for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

The Indianapolis Colts nominated cornerback Kenny Moore II for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his leadership and work both on and off the field.

Moore, as one of the unquestioned leaders in the locker room, told the media how he felt about being the team’s nomination for the award.

“It means a lot to me, but I feel like it’s a testament to the community that I was raised in and the family that has raised me to come this far. I feel like it takes a village to raise a child and to be the man that I am right now, it’s taken a whole lot of people,” Moore told reporters Monday.

There are few players that are held in as high regard as Moore is in the Colts organization. That’s why the choice was easy for the team to make. Moore will be going up against 31 other nominees from the other clubs around the league.

His head coach in Frank Reich had plenty of praise for the young cornerback and what he has meant to the team both on and off the field.

“I just want to begin by acknowledging Kenny Moore II (as) Walter Payton Man of the Year for us, for the Indianapolis Colts. What a great honor. How deserving it is for Kenny, I mean you’re talking about obviously not only a star player on the field, but this guy is extremely selfless, he cares deeply about this community,” said Reich. “He’s a consistent giver. He’s always in the community giving back – not just when the cameras are on, but just all the time. He’s the heart and soul of what we’re about as an organization and as a team. So, just congratulations to Kenny, happy for him, proud of him and everything he represents.”

Each team nominates a player for the award, the winner of which will be announced at the NFL Honors on Feb. 10. From NFL.com:

“All 32 nominees receive up to a $40,000 donation in their name to their charity of choice. The winner of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award will receive a $250,000 donation to the charity of their choice. All donations are courtesy of the NFL Foundation and Nationwide.”

Moore will be focusing on how to stop the New England Patriots offense in Week 15, but this honor is certainly going to be among the highest in his career thus far.
