For a long while, the Nets were able to put together a strong run without Kyrie Irving and Caris LeVert. But now Brooklyn has hit a serious rough patch and is back to .500 at an even 16-16.
The biggest problem has been Brooklyn’s offensive production. They had their worst shooting night of the season against the New York Knicks the day after Christmas (26.9% from the floor) and (26% from three) and things haven’t gotten much better through the first two contests of this three-game road trip.
Like the loss to the Knicks, Saturday’s loss to the Houston Rockets and Monday’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves are among Brooklyn’s eight worst shooting performances as a team in 2019-20.
Yet, Kenny Atkinson told reporters on Monday he’s not exactly sure why they Nets haven’t been up to snuff — he just knows his players aren’t getting the job done.
We were lucky to get to overtime, quite honestly. Even at halftime, I felt like we’re just not playing at a high level. We’re not playing up to Nets standards. Hard to figure out why. And like I said, I didn’t think it was an overtime game. I thought they outplayed us. They were the better team.
