One small, but significant, detail Kyrie Irving shared in his first discussion with the media since November 14 has given reason to question how the Nets are trying to portray the point guard’s injury.
During his availability on Saturday, Irving revealed there was “some bursitis” in his shoulder. Kenny Atkinson had previously refuted a report from Brandon Robinson of Heavy.com, which stated Irving had thoracic bursitis.
Prior to Tuesday’s game, Atkinson explained why there was a miscommunication on his part, per Peter Botte of the New York Post.
Yeah, I mean, yes, problem is, I’m not a medical expert. That’s one of the issues. Bursitis and impingement, all that, I need to get my medical book out. My mom used to have one in the living room, I forget what it was called, but you know, yeah, we’re on the same page.
Atkinson also added:
I’m glad he was open, honest, and spoke with you guys and was transparent. I think we’re good with that as an organization.
A big change in tune from Atkinson relative to the way he initially addressed the report when it surfaced.
