Caris LeVert was scoring when he first returned from thumb surgery, but he still wasn’t quite himself. Then the Brooklyn Nets wing had some trouble finishing, so then he stopped putting up points, too.
But, after scoring six points in Brooklyn’s first game of February, LeVert has exploded on the offensive end. He’s facilitating. He’s finishing inside. He’s stretching the floor.
However, turnovers have been a bit of an issue recently for LeVert. In four of the Nets’ last five games, he’s turned the ball over four or more times. It’s something Kenny Atkinson has talked with him about:
He’s still gotta work on his decision-making.
But Atkinson doesn’t want LeVert’s improvements to end there. As much as LeVert has done well, his head coach expects the fourth-year Net to continue to develop:
He’s gotta do it all. I told him, somehow you gotta find that balance between aggressive and scoring for us, and I can think of three or four plays right off the bat where [the Raptors] were [packed] in and we had guys wide open. But, hopefully, that’s part of the rhythm thing. He’s still searching a little bit. But he does score the ball. It’s just finding that balance with Caris.
LeVert has some time to recharge over the All-Star break. He’ll get the chance to prove himself again on Thursday when the Nets visit the Philadelphia 76ers.
