ESPN analyst and retired 14-year NBA veteran Kendrick Perkins has certain players who can do no wrong in his eyes. Aside from one spat he had on Twitter with former Oklahoma City Thunder teammates Kevin Durant in the middle of the 2019-20 season, the Brooklyn Nets forward largely fits that mold.
There aren’t quite as many who can do no right in Perkins’ eyes, but if there’s one current NBA player who falls under that category it’s former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Kyrie Irving.
However, Perkins was recently complimentary of Brooklyn’s point guard when it was reported Irving intended to travel with the Nets to Orlando as an inactive player.
But now that Irving has expressed he doesn’t think the NBA should resume its season, Perkins is back to questioning Irving, tweeting:
I’m sooo damn confused when it comes down to Kyrie Irving….just 9 days ago he was saying this now all of sudden it’s something different?! Now he’s started unnecessary drama between the NBA brothers which is something we don’t need right now.
While Perkins and others may feel this has become dramatic, National Basketball Players Association executive director Michele Roberts told ESPN‘s Ramona Shelbourne:
It’s not a question of play or not play. It’s a question of, does playing again harm a movement that we absolutely, unequivocally embrace? And then whether our play can, in fact, highlight, encourage and enhance this movement.
That’s what they’re talking about. They’re not fighting about it; they’re talking about it.
