Led by two interceptions from Adrian Phillips, the New England Patriots put forth a strong defensive effort, with special wrinkles designed to stop the Los Angeles Chargers offense. However, Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen wasn’t ready to complement the New England Patriots defense just yet.
Allen had a good game statistically in what was a rough day for the Chargers offense overall. He caught six passes for 77 yards. His 12.8 yards per reception where his most in a game since September 19 against the Dallas Cowboys. His biggest play on Sunday came against J. C. Jackson on a 41-yard reception.
Nevertheless, Allen told reporters in a postgame press conference that he did not see anything special in the Patriots defense. In his press conference following the game, he tore into the Patriots defense.
“Today, I don’t think they did anything that stopped us. AP (Phillips) had a couple good plays on the interceptions. One was a tip, the other was a missed throw. Other than that, it was penalties and us. I don’t think they did anything.”
With the win, the Patriots trail the Chargers by just half a game for the AFC’s final wild-card playoff spot. Sunday’s win was big in more ways than one.
