Oregon Ducks defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux became the fourth unanimous all-American in Oregon history on Wednesday, solidifying his status with a first-team all-America selection from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
Safety Verone McKinley III earned second-team AFCA all-America honors.
Thibodeaux joins three other Oregon legends, LaMichael James (2010), Marcus Mariota (2014), and Penei Sewell (2019) as Ducks to earn unanimous all-American status. He becomes the first defensive unanimous all-American in program history.
Once the No. 1 recruit in the nation overall, Thibodeaux is one of 10 players in the country this season to earn unanimous all-America status, and one of five defensive players. He is also the only unanimous all-American in the Pac-12.
A player is recognized as a unanimous all-American after being named to the first team by the five official selectors – the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Associated Press (AP), Sporting News, and AFCA.
McKinley joins Thibodeaux as a consensus all-American (a first-teamer on three of the five selectors), receiving first-team honors from the AP, WCFF, and Sporting News, as well as second-team recognition from the FWAA and AFCA.
This is the first time Oregon has had two consensus all-Americans in the same season since 2014 (Mariota and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu), and just the third time in program history (2010).
