Katie Taylor remains perfect.
The undisputed lightweight champion dominated previously unbeaten Karen Elizabeth Carabajal en route to a one-sided decision Saturday night at OVO Arena in London.
Taylor (22-0, 6 KOs) is now 16-0 in world title fights.
Carabajal (19-1, 2 KOs) entered the fight with a gaudy record but had never fought outside her native Argentina, which means she had never shared a ring with anyone like Taylor.
The underdog was game, often pushing the action and throwing her share of punches until she faded in the later rounds.
However, Carabajal couldn’t cope with Taylor’s ability and hand speed. That allowed the champion to pick the challenger apart — mostly with her overhand right — and take few punches herself.
Thus, the scoring wasn’t surprising: 100-91, 99-91 and 98-92, all in favor of Taylor.
“Twenty-two fights, 22 wins. Still undefeated. That’s what it’s all about,” Taylor said.
Taylor’s next challenge could be stiffer: Her handers are pursuing a rematch with Amanda Serrano, who failed by a split decision to take Taylor’s belts in April.
Whomever Taylor fights, she wants it to be at Croke Park in her native country. She has never fought in Ireland in her professional career.
“We hope it’s [Serrano],” promoter Eddie Hearn said after the fight. “But it doesn’t matter who it is. It’s going to be a big fight. and it has to be next, and it has to be Ireland.
“We’ve waited so long.”
