It’s been a year for many of us, none more-so than Karl-Anthony Towns. Towns not only tested positive for COVID-19 himself in January, he also lost his mother Jacqueline Cruz-Town to the virus last April, and six other family members over the last year as well.
On Mother’s Day, Towns shared an extremely emotional moment with his father — Karl-Anthony Towns Sr. — before the Minnesota Timberwolves game on Sunday.
This was Towns’ second Mother’s Day after losing his mom to COVID-19 complications, and his first Mother’s Day in season with the Timberwolves as the NBA was on pause last spring when his mother tragically passed away.

Towns and his family have lost so much over the last year and it’s gut-wrenching to see this display of raw emotion caught on camera for the world to see.
In speaking with Mark Medina of USA Today, Towns Sr. spoke on spending the day with his son and what it means to them both.
“It’ll be emotional. But it’ll be rewarding because she’ll be happy to know we’re still doing the stuff that she would want us to do.”
