There really isn’t a quiet period in the NBA calendar, and the Minnesota Timberwolves proved that once again.
With less than week to go until the official start of training camp, the Timberwolves announced that they were “parting ways” with the team president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas.
The team only added in a statement that they were “committed to building a winning team that our fans and city can be proud of.”
Rosas joined the Timberwolves in 2019 and he was given an entire offseason to make moves like trading the 2019 sixth pick (Jarrett Culver) for Patrick Beverley. So, it was a decision that really nobody saw coming, especially given the timing.
Karl-Anthony Towns wasn’t particularly pleased with the news either, it appeared.
wtf…

Just moments after the news of Rosas’ firing was announced, Towns took to Twitter and posted, “wtf…”
And while there’s seemingly rumors every offseason about Towns’ unhappiness in Minnesota, making a major front-office move that blindsides your biggest star isn’t the best way to quiet that speculation.
On top of that, Rosas was reportedly holding meetings in the gym on Wednesday.
The timing Rosas of firing indeed caught players and those in the organization by surprise as Rosas was still holding meetings and in the gym this morning, sources tell me and @ZachLowe_NBA https://t.co/g9LBNU9jNs

No wonder the players didn’t see it coming.
