When dashcam video emerged from a traffic incident involving Kareem Hunt in January, the Kansas City Chiefs were on Hunt’s mind.
“You know what happened to me? I should be playing for a freaking Super Bowl, man,” The Cleveland Browns running back told officers in the video.
Hunt seemed aggrieved that he wouldn’t be playing in Super Bowl LIV with his former teammates. He should have been disappointed, but as we know he has no one but himself to blame for that. After an incredible year and a half in Kansas City, Hunt was waived after a video was released of him assaulting a woman.
Now, after the dust has settled, Hunt doesn’t carry the same resentment about being unable to be a part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory.
“I have moved on from that,” Hunt told reporters on Monday. “I love those guys. I got brothers on that team. I came in with a lot of those players. Love the coaches there. All good people and they deserved it, and I am happy for them. I talk to a lot of them and I am very happy for them. They are champs—they deserve it. I know how hard that team works and how hard they stress to be great.”
Obviously, Hunt was happy for Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid and all of his former teammates. Still, it has to be bittersweet for Hunt to know that he could have been a part of something special and his poor decisions cost him that opportunity. Super Bowl LIV will always be a reminder for Hunt of what could have been.
Hunt also knows that he needs to do better in Cleveland and he claims that he’s working to grow and become a better person. We’ll see if he can stay out of the headlines and help the Browns become a better team moving forward.
