Undermanned and injured, Kansas State threw a haymaker at No. 3 Oklahoma on Saturday and won.
The Wildcats, who were down seven starters due to COVID-19, scored 31 second half points to come from behind and stun the Sooners 38-35 on their home turf.
Kansas State QB Skylar Thompson finished with four touchdowns, three of which came on the ground. He finished with his first ever game with over 300 passing yards.
A solid game of offense by the Sooners was marred by turnovers, as freshman QB Spencer Rattler threw three interceptions and RB Seth McGowan fumbled once. Oklahoma outgained Kansas State 517-400 in total, but couldn’t force a single turnover.
After holding Kansas State to seven points in the first half, Alex Grinch’s Speed D saw a monumental collapse in the second, allowing several chunk passing plays that would lead to Thompson touchdown runs. A blocked punt would lead to Kansas State’s game-winning 50-yard field goal.
Oklahoma had its chance late in the game, but Rattler’s third interception would end the game.
Rattler’s first two interceptions came in the first half. He would finish 30-for-41 for 387 yards with four touchdowns.
After being upset by the Wildcats for the second-straight year, the Sooners now look to their first road game versus Iowa State on Saturday.
