Kansas and Texas football headline 2023 Preseason All-Big 12 selections

On Wednesday, the Big 12 Conference announced its preseason all-conference selections and awards.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Big 12 Conference announced its 2023 Preseason All-Big 12 Football selections, preseason Player of the Year awards on offense and defense, and the conference’s preseason Newcomer of the Year award. Big 12 media members voted on the selections and awards.

The preseason All-Big 12 offense is headlined by a trio of Kansas selections, including star quarterback Jalon Daniels and running back Devin Neal. Offensively lineman Mike Novitsky also earned a nod. Texas also has three selections on the offensive side of the ball with wide receiver Xavier Worthy, tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, and offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr.

The preseason Offensive Player of the Year award was awarded to Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels. The Lawndale, California, native will look to follow up a strong 2022 campaign that saw him complete 66% of his passes for 18 touchdowns while also adding 425 yards and seven more touchdowns on the ground.

On the defensive side of the ball, TCU earned three selections in defensive lineman Damonic Williams, LB Johnny Hodges, and defensive back Josh Newton. Texas and Oklahoma State had a pair of defensive selections themselves. The Longhorns led the entire conference in preseason selections with five.

Oklahoma has their only selection on offense or defense in defensive lineman Ethan Downs. Kansas also has one preseason defensive selection in defensive back Cobee Bryant to bring their total amount of selections to four.

The Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year is Texas Longhorns linebacker Jaylan Ford. The senior linebacker is coming off a season in which he recorded 119 tackles, including ten tackles for a loss and two sacks. He also recorded four interceptions, two pass deflections, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
