Kamren Fabiculanan details his decision to stay at Washington

Kamren Fabiculanan has become an important leader for the Washington Huskies.

All the turnover that the Washington Huskies faced following the national championship has been well documented. Kalen DeBoer left for Alabama, and Jedd Fisch made his way from Arizona. Twenty starters departed through either the NFL draft or transfer portal.

“I remember that day like it was yesterday,” Fabiculanan told CBS Sports. “We were all in the training room, and the next thing we know, Kalen DeBoer was taking the Alabama job…We all just had a meeting with him yesterday, and this was four days after the national championship. It broke some hearts and put some anger into some people.”

After initially committing to coach Chris Petersen as part of the 2019 class, Fabiculanan decided to stick around and become a leader for Fisch’s team and his fourth head coach in his final year of eligibility.

“You’re never going to not have change in your life. So why not just stick it out and be a leader on your team?” he said.

Fabiculanan, who was named one of Washington’s six captains for the season, has not only become that leader, but he’s also an important part of defensive coordinator Steve Belichick’s scheme. He’s lined up all over the field and has become a crucial piece in Washington’s run fits.

He has tallied 8 tackles and a pass breakup over Washington’s first two games, and as the season progresses, Fabiculanan should continue to prove why he’s become such a big part of Fisch’s team.
