Kamaru Usman takes jab at Conor McGregor: ‘I really don’t understand why you all want this man dead’

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman says Conor McGregor would “do nothin'” if the two fighters faced off.

In a tweet issued Monday, Usman (16-1 MMA, 11-0 UFC) made as much known. UFC welterweight champion Usman took a shot at McGregor (22-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC) and those calling for a matchup between the two of them.

The tweet also included an edited image of the two fighters standing in the cage across from one another.

“I really don’t understand why you all want this man DEAD!!!” Usman wrote. “I’d shag him in there if I wanted and he’d ‘DO NOTHIN’ FOH”

Neither Usman nor McGregor currently has a fight on the books, though the former has been linked to a title defense against Jorge Masvidal this summer.

Recently, Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz told ESPN that if Masvidal (35-13 MMA, 12-6 UFC) were to rematch Nate Diaz (20-12 MMA, 18-11 UFC) for the BMF title, Usman vs. McGregor would be the fight to make for the UFC welterweight championship.

Usman, 33, has not competed since UFC 245 in December, when he successfully defended his title for the first time against Colby Covington. Usman defeated Covington by fifth-round TKO by strikes.

Less than one month later, McGregor, 31, made a triumphant return at UFC 246 in January. Taking on Donald Cerrone, McGregor earned a 40-second TKO victory. Since the win, McGregor has talked up fights with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.
