Justin Simmons: Broncos feel ‘way different’ entering 2022

“There is just so much buzz and excitement — it’s really exciting,” Broncos safety Justin Simmons said of the energy around the team.

The Denver Broncos are beginning a new era and there’s a different feeling at the team’s facility than there has been in recent summers.

The arrival of new Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is largely responsible for that new feeling, but he’s not the only reason. Denver has a new, energetic coach in Nathaniel Hackett, a (pending) new ownership group and free agent additions including defensive lineman D.J. Jones and cornerback K’Waun Williams.

All the newness has created a different feeling in the locker room, according to safety Justin Simmons.

“[It feels] way different,” Simmons said on July 27. “Obviously from a team perspective and from a quarterback position adding ‘Russ’ — that’s huge, but we have added so many players around the board that I feel are going to help us in every aspect in the game. Defensively, D.J. and K’Waun. There are just so many guys that we have added that I feel have done nothing but improve us in every area, in every position, and in every category.

“I am really excited. It feels like it’s all new. Obviously, with Coach Hackett and new ownership, it’s just new. There is just so much buzz and excitement — it’s really exciting.”

Fans feel the same way, but the excitement will quickly fade if the Broncos don’t get results on the field. That’s what training camp and preseason are for, to build a winning formula for the regular season. The excitement can be felt in Denver — now it’s time for results.
