Ahead of the Chargers’ Week 3 matchup with the Steelers, most of the attention is on the status of Justin Herbert.
Herbert sustained a right ankle injury in the third quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Panthers. He walked off the field and went into a medical tent with trainers, but he didn’t miss a snap afterward.
Herbert’s injury is on the same side as the plantar fascia injury that kept him sidelined most of training camp.
On Wednesday, Herbert did not participate in practice.
Jim Harbaugh said that Herbert is “feeling much better.”
“Crystal ball?” Harbaugh said when asked if there’s a possibility Herbert doesn’t play. “[I] expect him to get better every day.”
On Thursday, Herbert was back at practice and had his right ankle heavily taped. He didn’t participate in any drills during the portion of practice open to the media.
On Friday, Herbert revealed it’s a high ankle sprain. He is questionable and his status for Sunday is unknown.
