Julio Jones reacts to scoring first TD with Titans in Week 18

“I’m here… whatever the team needs me to do, I’m willing to do it, and I can do it,” Jones said after the Week 18 win.

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Julio Jones played a key role in the team’s Week 18 win over the Houston Texans, which helped Tennessee clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

It has been a down year for Jones due to a lack of production and injuries, but he had one of his best games of the season when it mattered most, finishing with a team-high five catches for 58 yards, his third-highest yardage output in a game this season.

Jones also found the end zone for the first time in 2021 after reeling in a three-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the fourth quarter, which helped seal the game.

Of course, Jones should’ve had a touchdown in Week 2, but it was overturned in what was a questionable-at-best ruling by officials.

“It was good,” Jones said of his touchdown. “It has been a process for me going back and forth, playing, not playing. The guys have just supported me through the whole time, and they came out there and they celebrated, and we just shared the moment. So it was just cool to have your brothers come out there. Play one play at a time for one another, then just going out there and scoring, and it’s just like, it meant more to them than me to get out there and score.”

While his numbers certainly don’t jump off the page at you, it’s important to note that Jones could’ve had more. Tannehill missed him open on multiple occasions, and the pair nearly connected on a long touchdown pass but Tannehill overthrew him.

Regardless, Jones showed that he still has more than enough gas in the tank to get open down the field.

“It’s just right there,” Jones explained. “I just feel like it’s timing, things like that. Other than that, we just got to keep taking them, and keep going from there.”

Jones has played a limited role even when healthy this season, but says he’s willing to do whatever the team asks of him.

“I’m here… whatever the team needs me to do, I’m willing to do it, and I can do it,” Jones said. “Defenses or D-coordinators or whatever underestimate me, that’s great. I love it, love to take advantage of it. It was just good being a part of the offense today. Moving forward, I’ll help wherever I can help for the team.”

After a week off, Jones and the Titans will return to action in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, with their opponent still to be determined.
