Julian Edelman has hilarious first impression of Cam Newton

Cam Newton’s presence — both physically and figuratively — is likely to loom large over the season.

It seems Cam Newton immediately wowed New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman. The two players began working together this offseason after the Patriots signed Newton to a one-year deal.

Maybe the departure of quarterback Tom Brady stung Edelman. But the arrival of Newton seems to have Edelman excited. His first impressions of Newton are comically complimentary.

“(Cam Newton) is a specimen for sure… dude is large,” Edelman said on a videoconference call on Monday.

Newton is 6-foot-5 and roughly 245 pounds, and judging from his social media presence, he appears to have spent most of his offseason working out. The guy dubbed “Superman” may have put on even more muscle.

Newton will compete against Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for New England’s starting job. Newton’s presence — both physically and figuratively — is likely to loom large over the Patriots’ 2020 season.
