First, it was running back Le’Veon Bell. Then it was wide receivers Antonio Brown and Chase Claypool. Now it seems that WR JuJu Smith-Schuster is the latest former Steelers skill-position player to leave Pittsburgh and see everything unravel around him.
Smith-Schuster left the Steelers after the 2021 season and signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Smith-Schuster actually had a strong 2022 season with the Chiefs and got himself a Super Bowl ring for his 78 receptions.
However, Kansas City was just a one-year stop for Smith-Schuster, who signed a three-year deal with the Patriots. However, everything has gone wrong for him in New England. He’s fallen out of favor in the offense, and according to NFL reporter Albert Breer, his bad knee is on the verge of a serious breakdown.
When we ask if Bell and Brown made a mistake leaving, the answer is 1,000 percent yes. For Smith-Schuster it is a bit more complicated. Smith-Schuster never did anything but give 100 percent. He came back in 2021 to play with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in his final season. We hope Smith-Schuster is able to salvage his career, which is something we’ve never said about any of the others.
