Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster holds tremendous loyalty to USC and his former teammates. So much so, Smith-Schuster didn’t hold back when he endorsed New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold joining the Steelers.
Smith-Schuster gave a ringing endorsement for Darnold joining the Steelers even though he has Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger right now.
“That my guy, man. Sam Darnold. If we could get him to Pittsburgh, I would,” Smith-Schuster said. “But I love Ben, so it is what it is. I’m just saying he’s a great kid. I played with him, so he’s one of my boys. So I wouldn’t mind playing with him again.”
I’m going to choose to side with the argument that Smith-Schuster is not saying Darnold is better than Roethlisberger. He is just saying he’s love to have his former college teammate with him on the same team.
What this could mean, however, is if Smith-Schuster is so convinced Darnold is a player he wants to play with, he could try to find his way to the New York Jets in the offseason when he becomes a free agent. Plus he’d get to be reunited with former Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell.
