It was supposed to be his moment to shine, after a week in the Reese’s Senior Bowl where former Michigan linebacker Josh Uche impressed greatly. But now, the NFL Scouting Combine won’t have the same impact as expected for the former Wolverine.
While most observers of Uche’s performance all week down in Mobile for the January all-star showcase indicated that his draft stock should sharply rise, we’ve seen no evidence in the ensuing mock drafts released. Uche was pinged as a third-round pick before the Reese’s Senior Bowl, and he has continued to project similarly.
That was supposed to change once Uche got a chance to further showcase himself to NFL teams at the combine in Indianapolis this week. But, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports, and Uche confirms, he will not be able to participate in the drills portion, due to an injury he sustained last month.
However, Uche does intend to still work out on Michigan’s Pro Day in March.
Did everything I could to get back in time. Will do my best to be ready for my pro day on March 13th 🙏🏽.. minor setback for a major comeback https://t.co/qy72KVd5XL

Given Uche’s versatility and speed, teams should be lining up to take him. However, early indications have showed that perhaps some teams aren’t positive of how to best utilize him.
The combine could have changed all that, so now we’ll have to wait until Michigan’s Pro Day to see if Uche starts to get the hype he deserves.
