Josh Richardson scores 15 points as Sixers fall in playoff opener.

ORLANDO — The NBA playoffs started on a sour note for the Philadelphia 76ers Monday night. The sixth-seeded Sixers dropped a 109-100 decision to their longtime rivals, the Boston Celtics.

But former University of Tennessee basketball player Josh Richardson had a solid performance in the opening game of the best-of-7 postseason series.

Richardson, a guard for Philadelphia, played 37 minutes and scored 18 points in the contest at HP Field House in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Central Florida.

Richardson, who previously played for the Miami Heat, also grabbed six rebounds and dished out two assists.

The series resumes Wednesday with the third-seeded Celtics looking to take a 2-0 lead.

Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. ET.
